Parallel Places

Alternative walking tour with artist-made devices

in collaboration with Andrew Simpson as LudiCity

The Performance Arcade (NZ)

February 2020

Parallel Places took place in Wellington, NZ in February, 2020. It consisted of a collection of guided interactive explorations that used artist-made devices to shift perception of the environment the tours passed through in different ways. Unlike didactic city tours, which draw attention to a city’s significant historical or cultural attractions, in this project participants were invited to take an active role in interpreting their urban surroundings. With this work, I was questioning how design artefacts could change the way everyday spaces in the city were related to by the participants and draw attention to previously unseen urban phenomena.
